En una medida decisiva para proteger los derechos de los animales, la Municipalidad de Talagante, encabezada por el alcalde Sebastián Rosas Guerrero, anunció la creación de la Defensoría Municipal de Mascotas, un servicio que brindará representación judicial en casos graves de maltrato animal.
El anuncio se realizó tras una multitudinaria marcha ciudadana en apoyo a Tony, un perro de Lonquén víctima de una brutal agresión que fue ampliamente difundida en redes sociales. Este lamentable caso motivó al municipio a presentar una querella contra el agresor, que actualmente se encuentra en prisión preventiva.
La nueva defensoría buscará garantizar que los responsables de maltrato enfrenten las sanciones estipuladas por la ley, además de promover la tenencia responsable y el respeto hacia los animales como valores esenciales.
